Hello STEP Community!
As you know, we have a snowstorm coming in – it now looks like the worst of it (with some serious winds) will be hitting in the morning just as we would be having group classes, so in the interests of safety we will be cancelling all group classes tomorrow.
The next STEP event is our solo concert next Saturday (the 28th).
We’ll see you then!
We would like to invite you to the launch of Jennifer Johnson’s book Teaching Body Mapping to Children: Overcoming and Preventing Injury in the Music Studio and Classroom.
We are glad to say the book was well-received in the Suzuki world at large- Ed Kreitman, one of the world’s leading Suzuki pedagogues and Trainers had this to say about it:
“Jennifer Johnson has drawn on her vast experience as an Andover Educator, musician and teacher to bring us an invaluable resource. Her explanations of “Body mapping” and what it means to “mis-map” bring new insights to anyone who is teaching a musical instrument to children. This comprehensive book covers every area of the body. Each chapter is filled with useful “pre-cursor red flags” for typical mis-use patterns and provides wonderful explanations and activities to help children bring new awareness to their body. Through awareness, old habitual patterns are released allowing for the freedom and balance necessary for a lifetime of pain free playing. This book should be required reading for everyone in the music teaching profession.”

(If you are unable to attend but are interested in the book, we’ve included a link below to Teaching Body Mapping’s page on the publisher’s website.)
